Letters, patterns and guesses are checked in your browser. The word lists are downloaded from this site in pieces; your letters are never sent with those requests or anywhere else.

What is stored on your device

The five-letter clue board is stored in your browser's local storage under today's date, with a short summary of the last seven days, so the board is still there if you come back the same day. Searches you press Save on are stored the same way (up to six). You can clear all of it from your browser settings. If you press Copy link, your search is placed in the address you copy — nothing is sent until you share it.

What is never asked for

No account, no sign-in, no email address, no location.

Advertising

This site shows advertising supplied by Google. Google and its partners may use cookies to serve ads based on prior visits to this or other websites, and you can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings. No advertising is placed inside the word results.

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics 4 to count page views and see which pages people reach. It sets its own cookies in your browser and sends Google your truncated IP address, the page address, and your browser and device type. Nothing you type into the tools is sent to it, and it is not used to identify you.

Under the GDPR the legal basis is our legitimate interest in knowing which pages are useful; under the CCPA this is not a sale of personal information. You can refuse it by blocking cookies for this site, with a tracking-protection extension, or with Google's own opt-out add-on. Blocking it changes nothing about how the tools work.

Your rights

Under the GDPR and the CCPA you have rights over personal data held about you. This site holds none on its servers, so there is nothing here to export or delete; what is on your device you can delete yourself.
