Why your own height

A giraffe at 5.5 metres is hard to feel; a giraffe that is 3.2 times you is not. Once your height is saved, every comparison on this site can use you as one of the two sides, and the ranked lists below the picture sort everything by how it stacks up against you — which animals tower over you, which buildings only reach a few of you, and which things you could look down on.

The figure is stored in this browser and nowhere else, so there is no sign-up and nothing to delete on a server. Pick centimetres or feet and inches; the page converts for you and keeps one value.

What counts as bigger

Each thing on this site carries one measured size — a height, a length or a diameter — and says which in its entry. A blue whale is 29.9 metres long, so beside you it lies on its side while you stand. The comparison is of the measured size, not of shape, and the note under every picture says so.

Come back as you change

Children grow, shoes add a centimetre and a bad posture day takes one away. Update the figure whenever you like and the lists reshuffle. If you set it for a child, the interesting thing to watch is the first animal that stops being taller than they are.

What it does not do

It does not estimate your height from a photo, it does not ask for your weight or age, and it does not send your number anywhere. It compares one length with the lengths in the table, and that is all.
