About Size vs

What this is

A comparer for linear size. Choose two of the 86 things here and they stand on one baseline at one scale, with the ratio, the gap and how many of the smaller stack to the larger.

Where the numbers come from

Each figure is taken from the English Wikipedia article for that item and linked from its page. Several were cross-checked against Wikidata; where the two disagreed, the page uses the figure that names its own measuring rule. Animal sizes are given for a named individual or an average, because no single number fits a species.

What it leaves out

Weight, volume, speed and age. And it is a curated list, not a census of every animal or building.

Silhouette authors and licences are on the picture credits page.

How the sizes are taken. Each figure says what it measures — height, length, diameter or elevation — and for which individual or convention. Everything is drawn standing upright on one baseline so a single scale holds, including things that are long rather than tall. Values come from the linked Wikipedia article for each item.

Corrections

If a figure is wrong, the fix is to correct the source and the entry together.
