Policy

Privacy & cookies

What this site stores, what the advertising and analytics do, and how to opt out.

Scope

This policy covers this index and every tool published under a path on 9odo.com. Each tool also states, on its own pages, what it does with the input you give it. Where a tool's own policy is more specific, that one applies to that tool.

What is stored, and where

There are no accounts or sign-in on this index and on the calculator and reference tools. Those pages are static files: what you type is processed in your browser tab and is not sent to us. Some tools keep your own settings or history in your browser's local storage so the page can show them again next time; clearing site data removes them, and nothing in local storage is sent to a server.

One section is different. The flag quiz (/flag-quiz/) runs a small server. While you play, the server keeps a record of the game (mode, question order, answers given, score). If you choose to submit a score, the nickname you typed, the score, the mode and the time are added to a public leaderboard. To limit automated play, your IP address is turned into a short one-way code that is kept with the game record; the address itself is not stored. Its full description is on the flag quiz privacy page. Please do not use a real name as a nickname.

This index page itself writes nothing to local storage and sets no cookies of its own. The advertising and analytics scripts described below are loaded on every page of the site, including this one.

Advertising and cookies

This site is set up to show advertising through Google AdSense, and the AdSense script is loaded on all pages. Whether an ad actually appears on a given page depends on the placements the page defines; ads, when shown, are labelled and kept out of the first screen. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar identifiers to serve and measure ads, including personalised ads based on prior visits to this or other websites. That processing is Google's, and we receive no personally identifying information from it.

You can control personalised advertising at Google My Ad Center and opt out of third-party vendor cookies at aboutads.info/choices. Google's own description is at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics 4 to count page views and see which pages people reach. It sets its own cookies in your browser and sends Google your truncated IP address, the page address, and your browser and device type. Nothing you type into the tools is sent to it, and it is not used to identify you.

Under the GDPR the legal basis is our legitimate interest in knowing which pages are useful; under the CCPA this is not a sale of personal information. You can refuse it by blocking cookies for this site, with a tracking-protection extension, or with Google's own opt-out add-on. Blocking it changes nothing about how the tools work.

If you are in the EU, UK or EEA (GDPR)

For the flag quiz, the data described above (game record, submitted nickname and score, hashed IP code) is processed on the basis of our legitimate interest in running the game, keeping the leaderboard honest and limiting abuse, and for the consent you give by submitting a nickname. For the rest of the site we do not keep personal data about you. Where advertising or analytics cookies are used, Google acts as the controller for that processing, and its legal bases and retention periods are set out in its own policies, linked above.

You can ask for access to, correction of, or removal of a leaderboard entry, and you can object to or restrict processing, by writing to the address below. Scores are not tied to an account, so include the nickname and the approximate time of the score. Rights over advertising and analytics data are exercised against Google.

If you are in California (CCPA/CPRA)

We do not sell personal information. The little we hold (the flag quiz data above) is not shared with anyone for money. Advertising vendors may treat the use of advertising cookies for cross-context behavioural advertising as a "share" under California law; the opt-out links above are the mechanism for that, and they apply regardless of where you are. You may ask for a leaderboard entry to be deleted at any time.

Tools link out to their own sources, and those sites have their own privacy practices that we do not control.
