Sources and limits
The images
Flag images are from the flag-icons project, released under the MIT licence, which allows commercial use as long as the licence notice is kept. The images here are resized copies; the flags themselves are not altered.
Which states
196 entries: the 193 United Nations member states, the Holy See and Palestine (UN observer states) and Kosovo. Names follow the flag-icons country list with a few shortened forms. They do not imply any judgment on the legal status of any territory or the endorsement of any boundary.
What the labels cannot tell you
Colours are classified from small images into eight names, so two shades that a vexillologist would separate can land in the same name, and a colour that appears only in a tiny emblem can be missed. Symbols were labelled by hand. This is a finding aid, not an authority: for the official description of a flag, use the country's own law or government site.
